KyRoopna win pennant

Posted on: 2 December

The combined team of Kyabram Valley View/Mooroopna (known to team members as KyRoopna) took out the GMGA’s women’s summer fourball pennant on Monday, December 1, with a 3-2 victory over reigning champion Cobram-Barooga 2.
Played on a beautifully presented Hill Top golf course, the result came down to the last match still out on the course, between Wendy Cox/Diane Newman and Gai Mitchelson/Jeanette Comer, with the combined team winning 3&2.
Von Morris and Kay Cowan (KyR) got to their team off to a good start with a 3&2 win over Helen Hall and Jill Sheedy (C-B) but then Marg Majernik and Veronica Irving (C-B) levelled the score with a 3&2 win over Sue McIntyre and Helen Armstrong.
Deb Greenwood and Wanda Hacon got KyRoopna back in front with a 5&4 victory over Jenny Gould and Jenny Hindson, but Terry Mentha and Beth Bull clawed their way back to level with a 2&1 win over Helen Emery and Joan McAuliffe, leaving the final result to the last match.
It was fabulous to see the combined team do well, a terrific initiative by the 2 clubs to enter an extra team into the competition. Eight teams was a terrific result.

Conditions n Monday were more winter-like than summer, with players encountering wind (of course), rain and even hail, with a good field of 21 pairs competing in the flag day fourball tournament.
Anne Pegg and Jo-Anne Foster (Shepparton) finished with 45 points to win the day, ahead of Joan Boyer/Kerrie Fisher, Lois Rogers/Robyn Brandwood (Hill Top) and Maree Teague/Chris Dwyer, (Shepp) all with 44 points, and Bev Hutchins/M’liss McCarty (Numurkah) and Veronica Hibble/Dianne McMinn (Shepp) on 43.
