GMGA Women’s Foursomes Decided

Posted on: 20 August

On a cold Monday 19 August the GMGA Women’s Foursomes event was played at Shepparton GC.  For several entrants and organiser Captain Annie the day started in a much interrupted way.  The Police and RTA conducted a Licence and Registration blitz in Mooroopna and several car loads of players were held up for nearly an hour in the traffic queue.

In the words of Sally Naylor (Shepparton Women’s President) “it was a small field, but a quality field”.  Special thanks must go to the women who participated, and the atmosphere and fun at presentations proved that they all had a good day.

At presentations GMGA President David Roberts thanked Captain Annie Beveridge for her organisation of the day and gave thanks to Shepparton GC for hosting the event with a special mention to Captain Judy Holland and Club Pro Mitchell McComas and his staff for their help and co-operation in taking the event at short notice when the scheduled club was unable to do so.

Congratulations for winning the scratch event go to Bobette Wilkinson and Petra Wilmot from Tocumwal with a score of 95, ahead of Nola Dalton and Helen Schmedje from Numurkah on 97.  After the “on the spot” photos Bobette and Petra were quick to get the silverware in the car to show all the girls at Toc.

In the handicap event, and after surviving the Police check up for all their details on the morning Journey, it was Valley View pair of Helen Armstrong and Judy Greer who took the honours with 79 net.  It may be the first time ever that a trophy acceptance speech covered police and TV interviews as well as the golf.   Runners up were Mort Davies and Gayle Steers from Shepparton.

Nearest the pins went to Sandy Millett on the 5th and Nola Dalton on the 12th.  Balls down the line Deb Ryan and Jen Tom from Cobram-Barooga and Shireen Moore and Mandy Farram from Shepparton.
