Fourball Pennant to Hill Top Gold

Posted on: 22 February

In what has been a remarkable season Hill Top (HT) Tatura set the standard for all Goulburn Murray clubs by fielding three teams in the Fourball Pennant season.  It what could be even more remarkable HT Gold topped division one and HT Blue topped division two.  The resultant step saw Gold and Blue play each other in the final on Sunday (22 February).

The final was played at Hill Top so a club win was inevitable, and a grudge match loomed while neither team could claim home track advantage!  And like all good finals it went to the wire.

Blue Captain Travis Worm and partner Scott Perry fought back from being down early and stole the win from Josie DeIeso and Peter Caldow on the 19th.   Club champion Ray Nicholoson and Jono Kerrins (who by all accounts played well) posted a big 6/5 win for Blue over Gold’s Nike Miller and Gavin Thomas.  So, the first two results on the scoreboard had Blue in front.

Darryl Phillips and Tanz Dellar lifted the hopes for Gold with a 3/2 win over John Dellar and Tim Balfour.  (wonder if dad cooked dinner for Tanz).   Gold team captain Glenn Newton and partner Club Captain Mick Keen registered a 2/1 win over Linc Wellington and Joel Brooks and while they were returning from the 17th green, Gold pair Julie Donaldson and Col Barlow were heading up the 18th where they sealed the win 2 up over Bryce Wellington and Rhylee Morrow.

The final team result was a 3/2 win to HT Gold.  A repeat of the 2025 result.

GMGA Secretary David Roberts was in charge of presentations and highlighted the great season and publicly thanked Barry Cryer and David Love from Nagambie golf club for their work with the draw and recording of results each week.   Hill Top was thanked for not only contributing three teams to the competition by also for hosting the final and making a big effort to mow all greens before the start of play and for the wonderful catering for all players during he season and the final.

Gold team Captain Glenn Newton, in accepting the pennant thanked all HT players and players from all clubs for making the competition a great one and emphasised to all HT players “the great honour to represent our club”.    The cry of two in a row rang out.

Winners are grinners:  Back row from left Col Barlow, Josie DeIeso, Gavin Thomas, Niki Miller,

Glenn Newton, Darryl Phillips, Peter Caldow.

Seated front:  Mick Keen, Wayne Duffy, Julie Donaldson and Tanz Dellar.
