Women start well in CTE
Posted on: 29 September
The inter-District Country Teams Event is being played in the Murray Darling (Mildura) District this year and day one kicked off at Riverside GC for our Division One Teams.
The women’s team started extremely well with a great win over reigning champions Ballarat District . Wins were recorded by Alison Keogh, Sonya Hill, Julie Daniel, Maxine Sadler and Kim Morris. Rowena Wallace fought back strongly to square her match and Nacole Horneman did the same but just could not get there. So overall a 5.5 to 1.5 big victory to GMGA. The “girls” then enjoyed a bye in the afternoon.
For the men the day did not go so well.
Five out of the seven matches against Ballarat in the morning finished on the last or second last hole. Two squared matches and two wins against three losses resulted in a 3 to 4 loss.
The afternoon again witnessed close games however the close ones all went against GMGA!! West Gippsland defeated GMGA 4.5 to 2.5 The star of the day for the GMGA was Numurkah club champion Mitch Grandell who recorded two 4/3 wins.
Day Two will be played at Coomealla where the women face home side Murray Darling in the morning and Western in the afternoon. The men have the bye in the morning and take on South Western in the afternoon.
