CTE Day Two

Posted on: 30 September

Tuesday 30 September came cooler for the matches at Coomealla GC

The men had the bye in the morning which was easy to handle.  Then in the afternoon took on South West in a tense struggle.  Nick Giles and Aaron Dale were both down early and fought back to gain a square and one up respectively.   Jeremy Rath was in the strongest position for the match and recorded 5/4 win.  Chris Tomlinson was in a tight match all afternoon and a few trees got in the way on 17 and could not get a win on 18 to go one down.  Andrew Storer and Daniel Adem were both down early and tried to get back but again trees on 17 and an opponent for Daniel who sank a “putt” from 5 metres off the green makes match play difficult.   Mitch Grandell one down with two to play, won both 17 and 18 for a win to get the final result GMGA 3.5 to South Western 3.5,  A draw better then the two losses of the previous day.

The women took on local Murray Darling in the morning and the home team were just too strong.  Nacole Horneman 4/2  and  Maxine Sadler 2up were the only two wins in a 2/5 loss.

The afternoon match against Western District was similar to the men’s match.  Hang in there and do your best.  Again Nacole Horneman battled hard to win the last hole to square her match.  Maxine Sadler took a two up win when her opponent could not recover from the trees on 18.  Top guns Rowena Wallace 2/1 and Kim Morris 4/3 recorded wins to get the GMGA “girls” to a 3.5 to 3.5 draw.

Day three will see GMGA play South Western in a battle for second spot for the women and the men take on “home” team Murray Darling where a win is essential to try to avoid relegation.
