Two years in a row.
The Goulburn Murray District, Ann Johnston Ambrose Teams Event was played at Kyabram Parkland on Monday 8 July, where last year’s winners Bobette Wilkinson and Maxine Sadler, made it two in a row.
Firstly, a big THANK YOU must go to Kathy Bell of Parkland who was the main organiser of the event, ably assisted by Vice Captain Nola Arnold, and to the catering staff lead by Heather Sleeth, the grounds staff and all who helped with the great event at which 12 District clubs were represented.
As part of the official proceedings, GMGA Secretary David Roberts (the thorn amongst the roses) welcomed Life members Faye Gollan, Joy Kelly and Iris Hicks and the legend Ann Johnston, as well as outlining the tradition of the event and thanking all involved in making the event so successful. David then handed over to GMGA Captain Mandy Faram and Ann Johnston to do the presentations.
The event honours Ann Johnston whose achievements are too many to list, but include District and Victorian Championships, Victorian State Team on five occasions including two Australian Championships, Western Australian State Australian Championship Team and a member of the Australian Trans-Tasman Team. The winners of the day, and the best scratch score of 56, Bobette Wilkinson (Tocumwal) and Maxine Saddler (Cobram-Barooga) 56-4.25 =51.75 did better with the countback than Runners Up from Shepparton Di Wood and Denise Whyte 64-12.25 = 51.75, and in third place a Rich River/Parkland pairing of Chris Kelly and Pam Spokes with 68.12.25=55.75 .

Nearest the Pins were won by sharp shooters Liz Mulcahy (Hill Top) 1st, Denise Whyte (Shepparton) 9th, and Bobette Wilkinson (Tocumwal) 14th. Scores for Balls down the line ranged from 56 to 57.5 and amazingly went to teams from six different clubs, namely, Sonia Verlinden and Nina Pell (Nathalia), Nola Dalton and Bev Hutchins (Numurkah), Annie Pegg and Donna Trickey (Shepparton), Helen Emery and Tracey Wade (Ky Valley View), Yvonne Smith and Karen Mose (Rich River), Jenni Gould and Veronica Irvine (Cobram-Barooga).
