Joyce Broadbent Teams Winners
A cloudy cold, but no wind, day, a well-presented course and great lunch was the golfing environment for the 2024 GMGA Women’s Teams Event Joyce Broadbent Shield played at Numurkah Friday 14 June.
In keeping with the last few years of combining a District event with a club event, the GMGA event was played in conjunction with the Numurkah Glynmawr Salver and the home ground teams were looking for a tiny bit of advantage, especially with Nola Dalton winning the individual A grade score with 38 points. However, the team representing Ky Parkland were not going to hand it to the home club for a second year running. In a great effort, the Parkland trio of Pam Stokes, Heather Gunston and Chris Kelly registered a combined score of 105 stableford points to edge out the local team of Nola Dalton, Tracey Clouston and Jeanette Adams on 103 points. (Last year the winning Numurkah Team of Jenny Ludington, Deb Cairns and Jill Wilson did so with 102 Stableford Points).
Winners are grinners!

In third place was a Rich River team of Rosey Devlin, Lyn James and Noelene King with 99 points. In fourth place Nathalia’s Sonia Verlinden, Wendy Fulton and Leesa Barnes with 96 points. Nearest the pin prizes were awarded to Tracey Clouston (Numurkah) 2nd, Jenny Bauerle (Valley View) 4th, Bev Roberts (Hill Top) 7th, Nola Crothers (Yarrawonga) 15th and Pam Powers (Cobram-Barooga) 18th.
The best individual scores of the day were: A grade Nola Dalton 38 points. B Grade Heather Gunston 36 points. C Grade Chris Kelly 40 points.
With the best score of the day the Parkland team also won the Glynmawr Salver. At presentations both Numurkah Captain Margot McGrath and GMGA Secretary David Roberts spoke about the golfing careers of Joyce Broadbent and Numurkah Life Member Faye Powell who donated the Joyce Broadbent Shield in 1972, and the Glynmawr Salver, to add some very relevant and appropriate information for the players of this long-standing traditional event.
GMGA Secretary David Roberts thanked Margot and her team on the organisation of the day and reiterated thanks to the course and hospitality staff. A great team effort by all involved at Numurkah. In addition, a gift of three GMGA pens were given to the best score from a non-GMGA Club to the team of Irene Cocks, Sandra McGuiness and Nola Crothers from Yarrawonga.
