District Mixed Winners Decided
Posted on: 28 April
A beautiful day, a well-presented course and great lunch was the golfing environment for the
2024 GMGA Mixed Championships at Cobram-Barooga GC on Sunday 28 April 2024.
Immediately after lunch GMGA Secretary David Roberts thanked all the players for their
participation and co-operation, the Cobram-Barooga Club for hosting the event and gave
special mention to Chris Tomlinson who administered the golf and Anton Noble for
organising the catering. GMGA Event Coordinator Mandy Faram joined David to do the
presentations.
The winners of the scratch event were the Numurkah Team of Mitch Grandell and Julie
Daniel with a superb 73 strokes. Mitch praised Julie’s putting while accepting the silverware
and prizes. Runners up were a Tocumwal pair of Aaron Dale and Michelle Pearce with 78.
The Handicap event in which the handicaps were three-eighths of the combined handicaps
of the pairs. The trophy for this event is the George Cronyn Memorial Cup in honour and
memory of past District President and major golf administrator. Local Cobram-Barooga pair
Andrew Cossar and Rowena Wallce won with a 73 net, just ahead of Lance and Leah Boyd
with 75.375.

The nearest the pins were dominated by the lowest handicap players in the field (although
this is not always the case) with Michelle Pearce winning for the women on the 5 th and 13 th
holes while her partner Aaron Dale won on the 13 th and Mitch Grandell on the 5 th .
Balls down the line for the next five best scores went to Stephen and Vivien Harding
(Shepparton), Ray and Marg Wallace (Cob-Bar), Adam Farrell and Bev Hutchins
(Numurkah), Ian and Julie Hannaford (Numurkah) and Ashley and Erica Kuiper (Valley
View). It was great to hear all the positive comments from the players about the organisation and
enjoyment of the event.
