Flags to Shepparton and Valley View

The finals of the District Summer Fourball Pennant were played at the very well-presented Numurkah course on Sunday (26/2).  The results proved that the finals were opposite extremes, with big differences in the pairing results.

From the organisers point of view the Women; s Final could not have been better. Three pairs matches and hardly a shot between them; which gave credence to last week’s report that the contest between Numurkah and Shepparton would be hard to predict.  Julie Daniel and Deb Cairns gave Numurkah a good start with a 1 up win over Sally Nayler and Jo Rathjen.  Next to finish saw Shepparton’s Megan Carr and Julie Cobbledick register a 2/1 win over Helen Schmedje and Rosemary Rutledge.  One match each.   Di Wood and Karen Shannon Shepparton and Bev Hutchins and Jeanette Nelson Numurkah were all square after 18 holes; so that a sudden death decider needed to be played.   It was Shepparton’s Di Wood and Karen Shannon who prevailed on the 19th to give Shepparton the 2/1 Team Win.  Well done to all players.  Just what we want to see in a final

In the Men’s Final it was Hill Top versus Ky Valley View; and as hinted to above what a difference in scoring.  Both teams went into the final with only one loss during the home and away season.  The Valley View loss had come at the hands of Hill Top in January; however, Valley View was keen to make amends and that is exactly what they did with a resounding 4/1 win over Hill Top.

The first group out saw Hill Top’s John Owen and Josh Danaher record Hill Top’s only win defeating Ash and Paul Kuiper 4/3.  Valley View’s, David Collins and Gordon Mackay scored a 2/1 win over David Cornwall and Shorty McNaughton.  This score was repeated by Paul Dickens and Dylan Gallivan over Paull Capper and Rocco Barca.  Ed McQuienn and Lawrie Casey showed no mercy with a 5/4 win over Michael Mulcahy and Daniel Maher.   The final pairing of Miles Gould and Mick Coyne thumped home a 4/3 win over Bryce and Linc Wellington.  A great win to Valley View.

At presentations District President David Roberts thanked Numurkah for hosting the event and for the presentation of their course.  A comment that was reiterated by all team Captains.  GMGA Captain Shane Halloran, who handed out the prizes, was well deservedly thanked for his work and organisation of the pennant season.
