Volunteer of the Year Presented

Posted on: 21 April

Mr Lloyd Ohlin of the Shepparton Golf Club has been awarded the Goulburn Murray District Volunteer of the Year 2021.

GMGA Women’s Captain Mandy Faram, deputising for President David Roberts presented the Award to Lloyd at a luncheon at the Shepparton Golf Club on Thursday 15 April.  Although Lloyd’s win of the award was announced at the GMGA Delegates meeting in late March, it was agreed that it would be best, more appropriate and more fun to make the presentation to Lloyd at a luncheon with his colleagues, mates and other Shepparton Golf Club members where his work can be fully acknowledged.

In addition to recognition of Mr Ohlin’s work, the GMGA Committee wish to publicly thank Mr David Quinn of Valley Sports who organised the judging, which kept the GMGA Committee at arm’s length from the decision making.

Lloyd Ohlin has been a volunteer contributor at the Shepparton Golf Club for many years and over that time as well as serving on the Committee he has supervised the extension of the Clubhouse, building of the pro shop, building of machinery shed and pump stations.  However, in concentrating on the Volunteer of the Year; with emphasis on “the year”; it was Lloyd’s continual work ethic and his mentoring of apprentice staff in welding and mechanical maintenance and ensuring machines were always in working order for extensive works carried out during Covid 19 restrictions that convinced the judges that Lloyd was truly “of the year”.

Perhaps the best summary of Lloyd Ohlin’s contribution can be found in a paragraph from the entry submitted by Shepparton GC Manager Mr Russ Powell, quote:  “He has always practiced with a hands on approach and has shared his expertise willingly.  Lloyd goes about his volunteer duties with a minimum of fuss and is a quiet achiever.  His contribution as a volunteer is outstanding.  He is reliable, loyal and his kind nature is exemplary to all”.

Well done and congratulations Mr Lloyd Ohlin.  The GMGA is pleased to recognise your contribution.
