Summer 4BBB Pennant Starts

Posted on: 11 January

On Sunday 10 January the Goulburn Murray Golf Association (GMGA) Summer Sunday Four Ball Pennant commenced with twelve men’s teams and six women’s teams participating.  This golf pairs events is well supported by clubs throughout the District.

GMGA President David Roberts said, that as well at the enthusiasm and excitement for the players getting started it was somewhat a sense of relief for Captains Mandy Faram and Shane Halloran who spent many hours in the organisation which included keeping up with the Covid 19 border restrictions.   The Men opted to play real pennant whereas the women agreed on virtual play at home pennant where they play their home course and send in their team scores for Captain Mandy to match up and determine results.

In the Women’s Three Pair per side Matches Hill Top Tatura and Tocumwal White played a draw with one win and one loss each and one halved game.  Mooroopna defeated Tocumwal White 3/0 in close games where Tocumwal Pair Petra Wilmot and Ros Seymour register 43 points which was the third best score of the entire competition yet lost to 44 points.  Shepparton Navy gave a strong showing to defeat Cobram-Barooga 3/0 also which gave them top of ladder status.  However, with six rounds to go ladder changes will be numerous.

Numurkah Golf Club hosted the Men’s five pair per side East Division where in a very rare golfing occurrence took place which saw each winning team win four matches to one.  Home team Numurkah got away to a great start for their 4/1 victory over Cobram-Barooga.  The combined Kialla-Cosgrove team did very well for their 4/1 win over Shepparton which had the added dimension of the benefit of two smaller clubs joining keen players to form one team and they start the season on top of the ladder.  In the final match Hill Top Blue went home with a 4/1 win over Tocumwal.  Special thanks must go to our border clubs Cobram-Barooga and Tocumwal for their cooperation to get the season started and next week all the teams head to the great course at Shepparton for the East Division contest.

Mooroopna was the host club for the West Division however the home track advantage did not help as they went down to Hill Top Red 3 matches to 2.   It was the same team result in the Kyabram Valley View versus Rushworth contest with the Valley View boys clinching the 3/2 victory and top of ladder position.  Merrigum and Nagambie played an interesting duel which saw two wins and two losses each and a halved match to give a draw for the Team Match.  Of all the pair games played in both Divisions, special mention must be given to Nagambie pair Shane McCormick and Alan Anderson who scored an 8/6 win over their Merrigum opponents.  If ladder results get tight at the end of the season the 8/6 could be a big help.

All results can be found on the GMGA website and team Captains should note to check results and ladder.
