Morris and Kellow Champions

Sunday 13 December 50 golfers from the Goulburn Murray Golf District took to the well-presented Shepparton Golf Course for the District Championships and Handicap events. The event was played in conjunction with the Shepparton Open, to which add another 27 players from around the State and it was a great day for the Shepparton Club.
A welcome to all players was given by Geoff Hall, Vice-Captain of the host club and at the start of presentations of trophies, GMGA President David Roberts thanked the Shepparton Golf Club “for supporting the District Championships in conjunction with their tournament, as it was the fourth date that had been tried this year, which previous attempts being postponed because of Covid 19 restrictions”. David added further thanks to the organisers and the barbecue cooks.
A presentation of the Pennant Flag then took place, by GMGA Women’s Captain Mandy Faram, to Shepparton White team for their victory in the recently completed Women’s Four Ball Play at Home Virtual Pennant. Most of the team were present to collect their pennant badge and much sought after GMGA logo towel.
President David and Captain Mandy then proceeded with the Championships presentations. The competition was extremely tight in the handicap events for both men and women with eight players returning net score of 72, to make the count back system work overtime.
In the women’s events Zoe Courtney (Shepparton Golf Club) won the handicap event with a net score 72 on countback from fellow club member Lynley Eadie. In the Championship it was Kim Morris (Shepparton) with a great scratch score of 77 who took home the trophy from Runner-up Rowena Wallace (Cobram-Barooga)
In the men’s events, the handicap winner was Shepparton Vice-Captain Geoff Hall 72 on count back from Ryan Sprunt (Numurkah). In the Championship Brett Kellow the reigning Mooroopna champion returned a 71 to defeat last year’s District Champ in Andrew Storer (Numurkah) 73.
