Women’s Virtual Pennant Semi Line up

Posted on: 17 November

The round robin part of the Women’s Play at Home Virtual Pennant finished on Monday (16 Nov).  The Play at Home Pennant was devised because of Covid 19 restrictions and was enjoyed by 210 women each week. The concept of the competition enabled Teams from each Club to play 4BBB at their home course and send Stableford scores to Captain Mandy Faram.  Scores were then entered according to the team list of each team over the six week season with the pair with the most Stableford points winning the pair match and the outcome of the five pairs in each team determining the Team result.

Some clubs entered more than one team (Shepparton managed four) and then the 21 teams were placed into non-seeded Groups.

In Group One the team of Valley View Gums dominated and went through their five team contests undefeated to easily finish on top of their group.  In Group Two it was a completely different story with the top spot being decided on the last day which saw Shepparton White and Kialla both finished with three wins from their four matches and top spot had to be decided on pair wins.  Shepparton White snuck in with 12 points against Kialla’s 11.5.  A halved match difference.   In the first semi-final Valley View Gums will play Shepparton White.

In Group Three Mooroopna Two cruised to top of the ladder with four good wins well clear of Hill Top Red who finished two wins behind.  If we thought Group Two was close then Group Four really tested the organisers.  After the final match in which they played each other and Tocumwal Suns defeated Rich River Two 4/1, both teams were tied on 3 wins each and 11 pair win points. The GMGA President sought checking advice from Golf Aus to make sure of the result.  The next step was the total of winning margins, which again saw a tie of points and the next step for the decision makers was; who won the team match between them?  As revealed above Tocumwal Suns won that contest and took top spot.   So in the second semi-final Mooroopna Two will play Tocumwal Suns.

A big THANKS for all Clubs and teams for their participation and best wishes to the four teams, all from different clubs, going through to the Semi-finals.
