Women’s Home Club Virtual Pennant proving to be very flexible in uncertain times

Update from GMGA president David Roberts on Womens Pennant with recent Covid threat to our local communities

We started “Play at home virtual pennant” because of uncertainty about Covid 19, travel restrictions, size of gatherings and social distancing.

Now, I am afraid we find ourselves concerned about an outbreak in our local area, being referred to in the media as the Shepparton outbreak.

This Shepparton outbreak has and will impact on players at our clubs.

Some Mooroopna players have already been tested (and found negative, which is great) but still need to isolate for 14 days.  Other players, from several clubs have been or need to be tested and await results and isolate accordingly.

This means that some Clubs, will or may not be able to field a full team of ten players (or 20 or 30 depending on how may teams per club) on the Sunday or Monday of scheduled matches.

Captain Mandy and I have discussed this situation in detail and have decided that GMGA will allow the maximum flexibility to support and assist clubs. There are six main points we now wish to convey:

(i)  If possible at your club, play your matches as per the schedule.  (Normal expected procedure)

(ii)  If you can only field a part team, say three pair, please play as scheduled and let us know that the other two pair could not play because of the Covid 19 situation (see catch ups below)

(iii) If you cannot field any team at all in line with the schedule please let us know (see catch ups below)

(iv) Catch ups will be allowed.  For example a whole team or part of a team cannot play as per schedule, they can play at another time when ok = another day or in twilight hours.  Let’s say, if this current Covid 19 outbreak confines us for two weeks, catch ups should be completed by 10 November.

(v) Score sheets for any part team and catch ups must be submitted to Mandy as soon as possible after they are played

(vi) We will be more lenient to allow players to swap between teams for clubs with two or more teams.  For example if one person if missing from Red team and three from Blue team, move a Blue team player to fill Red team (so all Red play) then catch up Blue later

COMMUNICATION will be vital.  Please inform Mandy via email (Cc me, may help) or writing on result sheet about what is happening

PLEASE do not hesitate to ask questions to clarify anything you do not understand.

PLEASE also understand that some results will be held up, which will impact on the ladders.  For example if Team A play on Monday against Team B, but Team B cannot complete play of a full team until November 6th, we will hold results until then.

We are taking these steps to help support the clubs who face problems for no fault of their own and in the interest of cooperation and the spirit of enjoyment of golf.
