Locals dominate in Edna Starritt and Royal Women’s Hospital Four Ball Events

On a crisp and sometimes sunny day of Monday 15 July, 64 women tackled the well-presented Cobram-Barooga course for the District’s Four Ball Event in memory of Edna Starritt which was combined with the District final of the State Royal Women’s Hospital Four Ball Event.

After a welcome from Cobram-Barooga’s Acting President Deb Ryan, Edna Starritt’s daughter in law Anne, spoke about memories of Edna playing golf and the honour of having her recognised.  GMGA President David Roberts then thanked all players and spoke about the number of women playing in GMGA events before thanking all at Cobram-Barooga Club for their hosting of the event; before announcing the prize winners for presentation by GMGA Captain Annie Beveridge.

The best scores of the day were returned by home club players:

Winners of the Edna Starritt 4BBB 2019 Robyn Jackson and Trish Scandrett  43

Runners Up  Christine Crawford and Helen Hall 42 and 3rd place Deb Ryan and Janet Curran 40

Then to the delight of those present Sally Nayler and Mort Davies from Shepparton with 40 oints, took the first ball and the next best score behind the Cobram-Barooga players. Other Balls down the line went to Val Fenner and Jill Sheedy (C-B) 39, Julie Danial and Felicity Booth (Numurkah) 39, Judy Greer and Leonia McMaster-Smith (Valley View) 38 on countback.

Nearest the pins went to Steffi Vogel and Louise Cross

Given that the winners were qualifiers for consideration for the Royal Women’s Hospital Robyn and Trish were recalled to receive the great prize from Golf Australia (Vic).  Now both pair of winners and runners up qualify to play in the State final to be held soon.
