{"id":3431,"date":"2024-07-28T18:15:11","date_gmt":"2024-07-28T08:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/?p=3431"},"modified":"2024-07-28T18:15:12","modified_gmt":"2024-07-28T08:15:12","slug":"winter-pennant-finals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/2024\/07\/winter-pennant-finals\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Pennant Finals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Winter Pennant Finals<\/p>\n<p>The finals of the Goulburn Murray District Winter Pennant were played at well-presented Rich River course on Sunday (28 July) in what was certainly winter conditions thanks to cold temperatures and stiff breeze.<\/p>\n<p>At the presentations GMGA Secretary David Roberts congratulated all teams who made the finals, thanked all the clubs who participated in the competition and added special thanks to Rich River for hosting the finals and Club Captain Joel Watson and his helpers for the organisation of the day. \u00a0The standout statistic of the finals was the closeness of all the team matches.<\/p>\n<p>Division Four was played between Tocumwal and Mooroopna.\u00a0 Rod Jackson, new to Pennant this season, got Tocumwal away to a great start, then Jim Mallis and Nick Breslin fought back with 2\/1 wins for Mooroopna.\u00a0 Jeff Rogers posted another win for Tocumwal to make the teams equal on two games each.\u00a0 The number one players battled to the eighteenth hole where Nick Sidebottom recorded a one up win for Mooroopna to give them the win. \u00a0Mooroopna pennant organiser Danny Ralph, not enjoying the greatest health, was recognised by Tocumwal Captain Shane Halloran, in great pennant spirit.\u00a0 The Mooroopna boys \u201cdid it for Danny\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3432 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-4-2024-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-4-2024-480x360.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-4-2024-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-4-2024-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-4-2024-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-4-2024-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Mooroopna grinners, Nathan Jarrett, Nick Breslin, Danny Ralph, Kevin Newton, Nick Sidebottom and Jim Mallis\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Division Three must have loved the cold so much they were last to finish thanks to a couple of nail biters.\u00a0 Peter Stanbrook recorded a 3\/2 win to get Cobram-Barooga started, Chris Shannon then got one for Shepparton.\u00a0 Jason Poulter posted a good win for Cobram-Barooga.\u00a0 Michael Hand and Alan Lownder went down the 19<sup>th<\/sup> where Hand secured a victory for Shepparton.\u00a0 It was then up to the number one players to decide the match where Shepparton\u2019s Josh Preston gained a victory on the 18<sup>th<\/sup> over Glenn Morris of Cobram-Barooga.\u00a0 Congratulations Shepparton, and well done to Shepparton Captain Ken Baxter, who summed up the spirit and sportsmanship of District pennant in his victory acceptance speech.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3433 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-3-2024-480x360.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-3-2024-480x360.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-3-2024-1920x1440.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-3-2024-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-3-2024-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.gmga.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Div-3-2024-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Happy Shepparton Div 3 team: Chris Shannon, Ken Baxter, Kyle Hippisley, Josh Preston, Michael Hand<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In Division Two Tocumwal went through the season clearly on top of the ladder and had defeated Shepparton relatively easily when they met previously.\u00a0 However, as was expected Shepparton were not going to just roll over.\u00a0 John Thompson recorded a win for Tocumwal and then Bailey Clune a win for Shepparton.\u00a0 Next finished Brett Molnar a win for Tocumwal. The two team Captains James Faram (Shepp) and Darren Rowe (Toc) saw Faram score a 4\/3 win.\u00a0 Just like Divisions Three and Four, two game wins each.\u00a0 Ian Armour sank a great putt on the 18<sup>th<\/sup> to secure a 2up win over Kirk Dalziel to give Tocumwal the Division Two pennant.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3434 aligncenter\" the District Northern Border Tocumwal Div 2: Ian Armour, Nat H\u00a0 Brett Molnar, Darren Rowe, John Thompson.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Some of the best golfers in the District faced off in Division One with Shepparton taking on Rich River on the latter\u2019s home track.\u00a0 However, pennant experience tells us never to underestimate Shepparton.\u00a0 Archer Golding got Rich River off to a blinder with a very strong win.\u00a0 The two Shepparton warriors of Daniel Adem and Luke Dixon were up to the challenge and recorded solid wins and when young Shepparton Captain Bailey Goodall posted a good win it saw Shepparton with three game wins to enable some waving and messages to be sent to Jeremy Rath and Reece Thompson who had gone down 19<sup>th<\/sup> trying to decide a win to shake hands and declare their contest a draw.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3435 aligncenter\"
