Big Golf Finals Set
On Sunday the last round of the Goulburn Murray Golf District “home and away” season was completed which established the top two teams in each Division. With some final positions being decided by virtually the last shot of the day.
In Division Five Hill Top Tatura gained a 3/2 win over Shepparton Young Guns with the experience just coming through; this gave Hill Top four wins from five matches. Tocumwal managed a 3/2 win over Shepparton Gold, but their finals dreams were shattered when Nagambie scored a 4/1 win over Kyabram Valley View enabling them to take second spot with better winning margins than Tocumwal. Hill Top’s only loss for the year was a thrashing by Nagambie. Can the southernmost team repeat their efforts?
In Division Four Hill Top Tatura managed a 3/2 win over Shepparton while Numurkah had big 5/0 win over Merrigum. Both Hill Top and Numurkah finished the season with three wins from four matches with Numurkah taking top spot with a larger games winning margin. The final will see Numurkah take on Hill Top. In their previous encounter Numurkah won easily and will probably start favourites, however, the Hill Top boys will be very keen to do well.
The final Division Three round was played at Kyabram Valley View where the host club watched from their top of ladder position to see who make second spot to challenge them. Shepparton defeated Hill Top 4/1. However Cobram-Barooga ran all over Mooroopna to record a 5/0 win and gain second spot. Can the River Murray boys produce the goods against the undefeated Kyabram team who just got over the line last encounter?
Division Two has seen Numurkah dominate most of the season and with the bye they got to watch Mooroopna and Shepparton battle for second spot. A couple of very close individual matches with the balance swinging, it was finally on the twentieth hole that Steve Haigh defeated Mark Jones to give Mooroopna a 3/2 win and the right to play Numurkah next week.
The elite players of the District in Division One were hosted by top team Numurkah where Hill Top Tatura recorded their first win of the year 3/2 over Cobram-Barooga and in the decider it was Shepparton who managed a 3/2 win over Mooroopna. The pundits would say a couple of surprise results in the individual matches and again like in Division Two a close match; it was Jeremey Rath who defeated Jordy Geisler on the nineteenth hole to gain Shepparton a place in the final. On Sunday the stage is set for an extremely good final between Numurkah and Shepparton.
Next Sunday (24 July) at the wonderful Tocumwal course the finals will take place Division Four Numurkah v Hill Top will start the proceedings at 9am followed by Division Five Hill Top v Nagambie at 9.40am. Division Three Valley View v Cobram-Barooga at 10.20am , Division Two Numurkah v Mooroopna 11am and Division One Numurkah v Shepparton at 11.45am. Presentations will be conducted as each Division finishes.
