Numurkah Team Win Joyce Broadbent Shield
Posted on: 24 May
The day started a little frosty then sunny blue skies dominated for the playing of the Joyce Broadbent Shield at Hill Top Tatura Golf Club on Friday 20 May 2022.
The Joyce Broadbent Shield which is a team’s event comprising three women per team has been played since 1972, in honour of Joyce Broadbent – one of the District’s most accomplished golfers. Joyce won 17 Championships at Mooroopna and 10 at Shepparton. She was President to the Goulburn Valley Ladies Association for ten years and a delegate to the Victorian Ladies Golf Union. A great contributor to the game in many ways.
In keeping with the decision made a few years ago to rationalise some of the women’s events played around the District the Broadbent Shield was played in conjunction with the Hill Top Bowl. Two events from the one competition. Thanks must go to Hill Top for the presentation of the course, the hospitality and special thanks to Hill Top Women’s Captain Bev Roberts for the organisation of the day for the twenty teams.
Runners Up with a team score of 102 stableford points, a Shepparton Golf Club team of Mandy Faram, Julie Garret and Robyn Wallace. The winners; one of the four teams from Numurkah the combination of Nola Dalton, Bev Hutchins and Jenny Ludington with a great score of 107 points.
The Joyce Broadbent Shield will now be engraved with the names of the winning team and be ready for presentation at next year’s event which in a quirk of fate will be played in conjunction with the Numurkah Salver.
