Inter club Golf Finals Series

Posted on: 7 February

The last of the “home and away” matches were played on Sunday and with a couple of surprise results the finalists for summer 2022 have been decided.

In the West Division Valley View had a big 4 matches to 1 win over Rushworth/Merrigum.  Scott and Gallivan and Kuiper brothers for Valley View dished out thumpings to their opponents and consequently Valley View took over top spot from their vanquished pushing Rushworth/Merrigum to second.  Nagambie had a big win over Hill Top Red but could not gain enough points to take over second spot and finished third.

In East Division Numurkah has finished on top – the only men’s team to go through the season undefeated.  Numurkah finished their season with a 3/2 win over Mooroopna at Kialla.  This team contest was fairly even based on pair scores with Numurkah managing to get the three wins. Although pennant Captain Glenn Thompson after a huge win last week was brought back to earth by Mooroopna Captain Steve Nioa and team manager Danny Ralph.

In the other big contest Hill Top Blue had a season equalling best team result with a 4/1 win over Shepparton.  Hill Top should be thanking their lucky stars and Shepparton should not be too upset.  The individual pairs matches were all extremely close with 3 one up wins to Hill Top and a 2/1 win and 2/1 loss.  The closest matches of the season and the big team win just enough to take second sport and push Kialla/Cosgrove to third.

The outcome of all this is that Numurkah (top east) with play Rushworth/Merrigum (second west) at Hill Top Tatura next Sunday at 8.30am.  Valley View (top west) will play Hill Top Blue (second east) at a neutral venue to be determined.

The women’s final will be between Cobram-Barooga and Shepparton Blue.  Cobram-Barooga cannot lose top spot regardless of the result of the delayed match against Numurkah next Sunday.  Shepp Blue cannot lose second spot which they have gained by the narrowest of margins by having some better pair wins (or lower losses) than Hill Top although both teams have finished with the same points.
