Summer Fourball Pennant Started

Posted on: 10 January

The Goulburn Murray Golf Association Summer Fourball Pennant got off to a great start on Sunday.

The weather was kind early in the day but soon moved to the “hot and sticky” type by the time the individual matches we completed.

The women commenced their season with Shepparton Club playing host and witnessed two close contests.  Hill Top Tatura claimed a 2mateches to one victory over Numurkah with two 4/3 results to either side or a final 4/2 victory to Hill Top’s Jeffers/Cornwall pair.  In the other match Cobram-Barooga achieved the same team score with a 2/1 victory over home side Shepparton Blue.  Cobram-Barooga new Captain Marg Wallace lead by example with team mate Veronica Irving posting a 4/3 win.

In the men’s East Division (West Division start in a couple of weeks) Hill Top Tatura had the bye and hosted the event.  The combined clubs team of Kialla/Cosgrove just got to the line against Mooroopna with a three matches to two win.  With the teams locked at two matches each Kialla Captain and new recruit Jason Welsh brought their team home with a 4/2 win.  A highlight of the event was “as close as it can get” from Mark O’Sullivan (playing for the Kialla/Cosgrove team) who had to take a photo of his ball on the par three sixth hole, hanging on the edge.  A hole in one that just would not fall in.  Bad luck Mark, but a great golf story!!!  Mark and his partner, Frank O’Connor registered the biggest win of the day with a 7/5 victory

In the other contest Numurkah had a strong 4/1 win over Shepparton to claim first up top of ladder position.  Numurkah were too strong overall, however, Shepparton Team Captain Darryl McLeod was quick to point out to his team that he and partner Greg Birks registered the team win.  Good to lead by example Darryl.

Next week the men do battle at Shepparton and the women travel to Cobram-Barooga.
