Summer 4BBB Pennant Finalists

Posted on: 12 February

Finalists decided from very close contests

The last of the “home and away” season matches for the Goulburn Murray Golf Association summer pennant season have been played and the finalists decided.

In Division Three, the women’s division, the Shepparton team was the most dominant team all season and finished on top of the ladder with 20 points, the result of five straight wins.  There was a battle for second place which came down to the last team match of the round.  Cobram-Barooga, Hill Top and Mooroopna all had a chance for second place.  Cobram-Barooga demolished Mooroopna on their own course, and then Hill Top defeated Tocumwal.  This gave Hill Top and Cobram-Barooga 10 points each.  However, Cobram-Barooga with a few more substantial match wins during the season finished 3.5 points ahead of Hill Top to earn the right to take on Shepparton next Sunday.

In Division Two the top three teams have shared top spot on the ladder during the season and after the final count all finished on 14 points.  On Sunday the then, two top teams Tallygaroopna and Valley View played each other and drew.  Whilst still out on the course Kialla triumphed with a 4/1 win over Nagambie.   The final count sees Tallygaroopna and Kialla with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss each and Valley View with 2 wins and 3 draws to be relegated to third position.   Tally did defeat Kialla on Kialla’s home course the previous week.  Does this give them a boost in what will be a close final?

The last round of Division One was played at Mooroopna where the home team lost to Hill Top/Merrigum which ended their chance at the final and saw Hill Top/Merrigum remain on top of the ladder with 16 points from 4 wins and 1 loss.  Shepparton has finished second with 14 points from 3 wins 1 draw and 1 loss.  Shepparton’s loss was to Hill Top/Merrigum earlier in the season, however, they have had two very strong wins in the last two matches.   Another close final predicted.

All finals matches will be played at Hill Top next Sunday 17 February.   Play will be from the first tee for all Divisions.  Starting with Division One at 7.40 am, Division Two 8.15 am and Division Three at 8.50 am.

All GMGA District players not in the pennant finals now have the opportunity to enter the Men’s and Women’s 4BBB Stableford Event to be played at the same time as the pennant finals. Enter by Thursday via the GMGA website through Golf Box coming events.
