Regional Information Sessions for the New Rules of Golf

Golf Victoria have sent the following memo to all clubs in the GVDGA, if your club hasn't received it, please pass the information on to the Club Captains or Match Committee representatives.

During June & July this year Golf Victoria will be conducting a series of regional information sessions. These sessions enable Golf Victoria to provide country districts, clubs and golfers with information regarding proposed changes to the Rules of Golf in January 2019. The R&A and USGA are asking for feedback on 33 items from golfers worldwide via their respective websites. Golfers will have until late August 2017 to register their feedback before both bodies refine and approve the changes to be implemented 1 January 2019.

With the above in mind, below is the upcoming date and venue for the forum:

Monday 17th July       Mooroopna Golf Club                      3pm – 5pm

Tuesday 18th July       Wangaratta Golf Club                       6:30 – 8:30pm

Other topics to be discussed will include but not be limited to the new online Level 1 Rules Accreditation program, Multi-Tee / Multi Gender Single competitions and Pace of Play.

We would strongly encourage that all clubs, where possible, send at least two representatives to this information session. Ideally, attendees would be operational staff and/or committee members of the club who will disseminate this information.

For seating purposes please RSVP by Friday 30 June to your Regional Development Officer Megan Carr via megan.carr@golfvic.org.au or by phoning 0410 605 359.

Golf Victoria looks forward to your participation in these sessions and hopes that they will be beneficial to your District or club.

For those golfers wanting to know what the 33 changes are, here they are.

Kind Regards,

Proposed Changes to the Rules of Golf in 2019

As some of you may be aware, the R&A and USGA are tinkering with the Rules of Golf, and have come up with some proposed changes.

These changes relate to many things like speeding up the pace of play by only allowing three minutes instead of five, to look for a lost ball.
Water Hazards will be replaced by a new definition of "Penalty Areas". Dropping a ball will be allowed from any height, whether that be 1cm or 1m.

They are also reducing the number of rules (might be a good thing!!).

For a more complete rundown, download the information from here. It makes interesting reading.
