2018 Champion of Champions Results

District Champions decided

Last Sunday the Goulburn Murray Golf Association (GMGA) Champion of Champions was conducted at the well-presented Shepparton Golf Club.  This is an event where the champions from each of the twenty clubs in the region are given the opportunity to compete against each other for the District Champion title while their guests play a handicap event.

In the women’s section Kim Morris of Shepparton Golf Club won with 79 scratch score ahead of Rowena Wallace from Cobram-Barooga 84.  In the Men’s section it was a much tighter contest in which Matt Miller from Hill Top Tatura took the honours with a four under the card 68 to just defeat Caleb Bovalina from Tocumwal on 69.  Miller started eagle birdie for the first two holes to set up his great round while Bovalina counted with his own eagle on the back nine.  It was certainly a competition for the “young guns”.   For the Junior Championship Blair Christie of Rich River returned a scratch score of 77 to win with Bailey Goodall of Shepparton winning the net event with 73

In the handicap events for the guests Marie Brown from Shepparton with 75 net won ahead of Karen Fitzgerald of Rich River on 78.  Nicholas Giles from Cobram-Barooga won the Men’s event with great 68 net with Bernard O’Hare from Nathalia in second place with a 72 net.

Marie Brown, Rowena Wallace and Matt Miller (two) took home the nearest the pin prizes.

Teams’ events were conducted for pure champion and guest teams and for pick-up teams.  In the pure champions teams’ event the Cobram-Barooga team of Rowena and Margaret Wallace and Chris Tomlinson and Nicholas Giles won with a combined net score of 308.  A special highlight of this team was the three generation family connection of Grandmother, mother, son of Margaret, Rowena, Chris.  In the pick-up team it was a mainly Shepparton combination of Kim Morris, Marie Brown, Bailey Goodall and Thomas Jeffery who won with 297 net.
